Approximately two weeks before your scheduled session, we will have a consultation via phone or email. This is your opportunity to ask any questions, as well as share thoughts and ideas regarding your session. During this time, we will discuss clothing options as well as location. I love to shoot early in the morning and in the evenings because of the light. If doing a stylized shoot, we will discuss the theme, props and all the other fun theatrics that go along with this kind of session. During your consultation, I may have a few questions for you, so I can get a sense of who you are and what you're all about. Together we will plan an amazing session you can look forward to!
You can expect a relaxed yet lively shoot in a natural setting. Most sessions last 1-2 hours. My approach is unobtrusive, using natural light, easygoing and, at times, incredibly playful. I am invested in capturing an honest moment, so oftentimes I find myself simply observing. I allow each session to unfold organically, whether it be lifestyle, senior, themed, or children and family. There will be some relaxed posing along the way, but you will never hear me tell you to 'say cheese'! I absolutely love unplanned candid moments. Idiosyncrasies and imperfections are not only welcomed, but strongly encouraged and adored! Prepare for an atmosphere that is relaxed, joyful, and stress free.
Approximately 2-3 days after your shoot, you will receive 2-3 sneak peek photos on our social media pages. These images will be edited and ready for your viewing pleasure and for sharing. Approximately 2-3 weeks after your session, you will receive a link to your own private gallery, with all images selected and post-processed by me. Your gallery will be available for viewing for 14 days. During this time, select your prints, collection, or digital files and once payment is received, I will begin processing your order. There are also custom items available, such as gallery-wrapped canvas, photo books, cards, and more. Your order will be complete and ready for pick up or delivery 2-3 weeks from the time payment is received.
Some overall guidelines on clothing:
Neutrals are always beautiful in natural settings. But of course, I love color! Don't shy away from it! However, logos and certain patterns don't always photograph well, so consider this when choosing outfits. That being said, I do love a good pattern!
For Families: Please do not have everyone dress alike! After all, it's all about celebrating each individual's essence and unique contribution of character to your family dynamic. Therefore, simply coordinate. It is best to pick 2-3 colors with one or two accent colors, and choose each family member's outfit in accordance with those colors. Find a pattern you love, and pull colors from that! It's all about complimenting each other. Pinterest is a great tool for ideas on clothing options for families, and during our consultation, I can share some links with you if you like.
For Children: Sundresses and headbands! Boots and bare feet! Dress your children in clothes that accent their personality. Avoid stiff and uncomfortable clothing. Accessories are awesome. The big thing to consider when dressing your kids is their comfort. We want them to look their best, but they should feel free to play and be themselves.
For Babies: Natural is always beautiful and amazing if the weather permits. Think bare feet, bare chest, and bloomers with a couple of accessories such as a headband, hat or necklace. For clothing, soft works best. Avoid uncomfortable clothing or stiff lace. I particularly love clothing with texture, such as knit hats and sweaters.
For Seniors: The day of your shoot, bring several outfits. It's better to have too many choices than not enough. Bring at least 3 outfits. And don't forget accessories! Hats, jewelry, scarves, headbands, etc. If you are interested in using any specific props, such as books, musical instruments, sports equipment, etc., bring those as well.
Senior Girls: Bring dresses, a few tops, and a pair of jeans or denim shorts which will allow for many variations. For make up: You do not have to go all out with make up unless you want to. If that is your thing, go for it. If it's not, no worries. We are aiming to create something authentic. Simply put, you want to be the best version of yourself. If you do choose a dramatic look, play up the eyes or the lips, one or the other, to avoid looking overdone in your photos.
Senior Boys: Bring several tops, from t-shirts to polos to button downs to hoodies, with a couple of pairs of pants. Never underestimate a comfortable pair of jeans.
For Themed Shoots: If we are doing a themed shoot, I will most likely be bringing clothing and/or costume options. Anything that you need to bring would have already been determined during our consultation.
